Michiana Regional Transportation Center

Thats South Bend Regional Airport. Ever since the dashing French aviator, Ren Simon, first touched down in South Bend in 1911 marking the areas first recorded airplane flight, the Michiana region has played an exciting and often pivotal role in aviation history. For more than sixty years, beginning in 1929 when local industrialist Vincent Bendix began constructing the airport, South Bend Regional Airport has been a proud participant in that rich tradition and heritage. Back then, the airport logged a handful of flights on a chalkboard that was postedi out of doors, near a dirt runway.
